Gopal Hallur, the arrested police sub-inspector, has reportedly confessed that he had received Rs 82 lakh as ‘supari’ (contract) money for killing Dharmaraj Chadachana, history-sheeter from the banks of River Bhima.

“Congress leader Mahadeva Bairagonda had got me transferred from Ghataprabha police station in Belagavi district to Chadachana station to systematically kill Dharmaraj,” he has said in the confession statement to the CID, a copy of which is available with DH.

The statement says Bairagonda had promised him (Hallur) that no harm would befall him after the encounter.
