Mangaluru: Train services on the ghat section between Yedakumari and Shiribagilu were disrupted early Saturday morning after boulders fell onto the track at 4:23 am. Following which, South Western Railway regulated trains running on the stretch as a precautionary measure.
According to a release from South Western Railway, Train No 16511 KSR Bengaluru – Kannur Express was regulated at Kadagaravalli. Train No 16585 SMVT Bengaluru – Murudeshwar Express and Train No 07377 Vijayapura – Mangaluru Central Express Special were regulated at Sakleshpur.
A material train was immediately rushed from Sakleshpur to clear the debris. During the delay, railway authorities arranged drinking water, breakfast, biscuits, and tea for the stranded passengers on the train. By 9:10 am, all the boulders were cleared, and the track was declared safe for movement, with a speed restriction of 20 kmph. "All regulated trains have continued further journey," said Manjunath Kanamadi, Chief Public Relations Officer, South Western Railway, Hubballi.
