A crocodile that strayed from Karanji lake and got trapped on a fence, was rescued and released into the water body, on Saturday.

A security guard at Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, which is adjacent to the lake, noticed the reptile at around 8:30 am on the now closed Tank Bund Road, and  informed the authorities at the menagerie.

A zoo herpetologist, Manju, popularly known as ‘Snake Manju,’ accompanied other staff members to rescue the crocodile and release it into the lake.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Manju said: “The crocodile is one of the seven found in the lake. The reptile, which is possibly pregnant, might have ventured out of the lake in search of a place to lay eggs.”

Two crocodiles were spotted on the same stretch on Tank Bund Road on Friday. However, the two were driven back into the water body later.
