The sitting of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal was conducted at the central hall of Government Guest House in the city, on Wednesday.
High Court Judge of Delhi Suresh Kait who presided over the tribunal heard arguments and counter arguments with relation to the alleged role of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in the State between 2008 and 2010.
It included serial blasts in Bangalore, Hubli, and other parts of the State, according to sources.
It was the first sitting of the tribunal in the city, and sixth after Bangalore. Previously, the tribunal had been convened on different occasions in Bangalore.
The tribunal is going to different States seeking opinion about unlawful associations in the country since 2001.
As per the notification (no S.o.299(E)) dated February, 1, 2014, issued by the Central Government under Section 3(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, Students Islamic Movement of India (for short SIMI ) has been declared as an unlawful association (read with Notification no. S.().578(E) dated February, 27, 2014).
The central hall of the guest house had been converted into a court.
Entry was allowed from the main door of the guest house facing the main gate.
A 15 member staff from Delhi court had arrived for the purpose, with State authorities making necessary arrangements. DIG (VIP security) K T Shivaprasad is supervising the security arrangements, with a posse of police personnel from the city deployed on the duty.
The tribunal will convene for the second and final day on Thursday at 11 am.
