Ballari: Five members of a family were killed in a head-on collision between a car and ore-transporting truck near Jaisingapura village of Sandur taluk on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Nandish (28), who was driving the car, his wife Jayalakshmi (25), his sister Asha (35) and her children Bindushree (nine months) and Sai Satwik (5).
A three-year-old baby sustained grievous injuries in the accident. The Sandur police have registered a case.
Accidents involving ore-laden trucks are on the rise in the taluk. The SC-appointed CEC in its recent report had stated that as many as 126 lives had been lost in the last two years in the accidents caused by ore-laden trucks.
In another accident, Shashidhar (48) of Maddur taluk in Mandya district died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a road divider near Tekkalakote.
Two persons sustained injuries in the accident and have been admitted to hospital. A case has been registered at the Tekkalakote police station.
