“The inscription can be considered unique since it is in the medieval Tulu script,” researcher Dr Y Umanath Shenoy and the Pratishtana Director Dr S R Vighnaraj told Deccan Herald. The inscription is of 13 lines carved on a 3x1 feet stone plaque.

A few lines are found on the back. However, none of the letters can be read. Hence, one cannot quantify the actual purpose of the inscription, they said. Dr Shenoy said the inscription could be dated back to 12th century.

“Alupa kings were ruling Tulunadu in that period. The inscription shows that Tulu language and script were used vastly during the time,” he added.
