With increase in the inflow in to the dam beyond expectation, additional water from the dam is being released through the crest gates.

Tungabhadra Board secretary Krishnan Unni set in motion the release of water from the dam by opening the 12 central gates of the dam at a height of two feet at 9.30 am. People who travelled by bus and train could catch a glimpse of the spectacular view of water gushing from all the gates, apart from the 12 crest gates which were officially opened.
The taluk administration and the officers of the Tungabhadra Board have warned the people residing on the banks of Tungabhadra river and in the catchment areas to take necessary precuations. Fisherman have been warned not to venture into the river. Due to good rainfall in the catchment area, there is a heavy inflow into the dam and water is being released into the river.

At present 36,000 cusec of water is being released into the river and by evening, the inflow in to the dam is expected to swell and more water will be released into the river, the officers have said.

The maximum level of the Tungabhadra dam is 1,633 ft, while the water level recorded on Friday was at 1632.98 feet. The inflow in to the dam is 30,573 cusec and the outflow stood at 12,288 cusec. The water capacity of the dam is 100.778 TMC ft and last year on same day, the water stored was 78.345 TMC ft.
