The deceased are Nazeer (38) and Amarnath (42). Two women Shilpa and Jyothi have received serious injuries and are being treated at the hospital. The mishap occurred at around 1.15 pm, on Sunday.

According to sources, Jyothi was selling fruits, Neelamma was selling flowers and Deepa was selling provisions, near the building on Sunday. Shilpa, Nazeer and Amarnath had come to purchase things, when the concrete slab collapsed on them.

Amarnath died on the spot, as the slab fell on his chest. Nazeer, who sustained serious injuries, breathed his last in the Hassan hospital. Jyothi and Shilpa have been admitted to a private hospital in Hassan for treatment. Deepa has escaped with minor injuries.

It is said that the building owner, the late Sathyanarayana Gowda’s family members wanted to demolish the complex, saying that the shops were in a dilapidated condition. But, opposing this, some tenants approached the court and brought an injunction order against eviction.

The case is still in the Court.

Rathnakar and Chidu, relatives of Sathyanarayana said that the tenants, who have filed a lawsuit in Court are directly responsible for the incident and they should pay compensation for it.
