Two fishing boats that were headed home to Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, drowned in the Arabian Sea at a distance of 21 nautical miles (39 km) from the Karnataka coast.

The two boats which drowned were identified as Angel-1 and Angel-2. They were carrying six fishermen. Locals say that the boats perhaps, had suffered extensive damage caused by the lashing waves.

According to Fisheries department sources, four fishermen were rescued and the hunt for the other two is on. One boat is completely submerged underwater, while the other floats abandoned far from the coast, at sea.

Fisheries department deputy director Santosh Koppad said that the Coast Guard was on a search for the missing two fishermen.
