Madikeri: Two people have been arrested in connection with posting derogatory content on social media on a temple dispute in Kattemadu village of the taluk.

Anudeep (36) from Kushalnagar and Amruth (45) from Garvale have been identified as the accused.

The police said that they had posted messages on December 31, inciting hatred and jealousy between two communities in the district, disrupting public peace.

Three cases have been registered, and the court has remanded both the accused to judicial custody until January 14.

The police have meanwhile warned of strict legal action against individuals spreading defamatory messages against any community, disseminating false news with the intent to disturb communal harmony, and creating panic.
