Udupi: A 28 year-old woman from the Thenka village in Kaup taluk has filed a complaint accusing her husband of unilaterally pronouncing triple talaq along. She also accused him of demanding dowry and physical assault.
In her complaint to the Padubidri police, the woman mentioned that she was married to Mubeen Sheikh on October 21, 2024, at the Koppalangadi Community Hall in Kaup taluk. Following the demands made by the groom’s family, the complainant’s family allegedly gave 12.5 pavan gold ornaments and Rs 20 lakh in cash as dowry during the marriage.
Woman harassed after marraige
However, after marriage, when the woman began residing with her husband in Yermal, she was reportedly treated well only for a month. She later began facing both mental and physical harassment, allegedly from her husband and his family members.
Her family abused
When the woman’s father visited her in-laws’ house, her sister-in-law Rasheen, allegedly abused him using vulgar language. On questioning the unacceptable behaviour, Rasheen is said to have physically assaulted her by striking her on the back.
Demand fore more dowry
In her complaint, she further wrote that on December 12, 2024, her husband left for a foreign country, after which the in-laws began demanding more gold and money. They reportedly told her that she must bring additional dowry if she wanted to continue living in the house. According to the woman, she was even threatened to life.
Triple talaq via WhatsApp
On July 15, her husband allegedly sent her a WhatsApp message pronouncing triple talaq.
Case registered
A case has been registered at Padubidri Police Station under Sections 85, 115(2), 352, 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 and Section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
