The University Grants Commission (UGC) has rejected University of Mysore (UoM)'s proposal seeking extension for admissions to various courses under distance education programme.

The varsity has received only 33 applications for distant learning courses as of October 20, the last date for application.

According to UoM Registrar R Rajanna, due to shortage of time only few applicants applied for the courses.

A large number of students enquired about admissions after the last date for application; and so the Registrar had requested the UGC to extend the deadline.

Rajanna said, UGC denied permission and suggested to take up new admissions in January.
