The officials of the election squad o0n Tuesday seized unaccounted money of Rs 20 lakh which was being transported by a person in NEKRTC bus, at Devangaon checkpost in Sindhagi taluk of Vijayapura district.
The Almel police have registered a case in this regard.
The sources in the police said that the money belonged to one Manthappagouda Patil, a contractor and a resident of Duddani village in Afzalpur taluk. Patil was on his way to Afzalpur from Vijayapura.
Though he claimed that he had withdrawn the money from a bank for his sister’s marriage, scheduled for Wednesday, he didn’t produce any document in this regard, sources said.
Patil was taken into custody.
