An undertrial who was undergoing treatment at a district hospital escaped on Monday morning.
The undertrial man is identified as Ganesh of Suntikoppa. He had attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison at the district jail on December 30 and was undergoing treatment at the hospital. He escaped through the window of a toilet in the hospital, said Jail Superintendent Krishnamurthy.
As there was no police personnel, the jail staff was deployed at the hospital. The staff should have ensured that the undertrial did not close the door in the toilet. However on Monday, he had closed the door before escaping through the window, he added.
