Udupi district has won an award in the ‘innovation in measurement’ category of the Manav Vikas India Human Development awards.

The awards are presented by the Planning Commission, along with the United Nations Development Programme, recognising excellence in the preparation of District Human Development Reports.

“We have been awarded for preparing a report on Gram Panchayats in our district with regard to achievements and bottlenecks in sectors such as education, health and human development.

“The district is progressing, but a lot needs to be done,” said Hemalata, former Deputy Commissioner of Udupi.

Bijapur district was a finalist in the award category for Participatory Process of Preparation.
Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister for Rural Development, was among those present at the awards function in the city on Wednesday.

Around 44 districts across eight states - Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal - had released their reports and were considered for the awards.

Twelve experts formed a technical review group for the selection of states for the four categories of awards.
