Over 200 devotees participated in the ‘Made snana’ ritual, which involves devotees rolling over the food left over by Brahmins — in the belief that it would rid them of various ailments —at the Kukke Subramanya temple here, as part of the three-day Champashashti Jatrotsava, on Friday.
After the ‘mahapooja,’ ‘prasada’ was offered to Brahmins. After they finished having the food, the devotees rolled over the leftover food. In the backdrop of opposition to the rituals and the Supreme Court directing to maintain the status quo, police security was intensified in and around the temple. A large number of devotees are likely to take part in the ritual on Saturday and Sunday too.
Radhamani and Shivalingaiah, a couple from Mandya, said, “Our son Nutan, 20, had developed abscess soon after his birth. The abscess increased over a period of time. After taking part in the ‘made snana’ ritual, it has been cured to some extent. We come to the temple every year to take part in the ritual,” they said.
