Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta directed officials to implementat PM Surya Ghar Yojana effectively, wherein consumers receive a subsidy from the central government if they install a solar system on their rooftops. The MP also directed that awareness about this should be created among the public.

Chairing a meeting at the DC's office on the preparation for PM Surya Ghar Yojana workshop and subsidy certificate distribution programme, he stated that under the scheme, if the public installs solar systems on their rooftops, they will receive government subsidies. The subsidy amounts are Rs 30,000 for 1 kilowatt, Rs 60,000 for 2 kilowatts, and up to Rs 78,000 for solar systems above 3 kilowatts.

The MP said that the electricity generated through the solar project can be used for household purposes, and any surplus power can be sold to MESCOM. Union Minister for Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi will visit Mangaluru on January 2 and will inaugurate the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana workshop and review the progress of the project’s implementation. The minister will also interact with customers who have already installed solar systems.

The MP instructed the district administration to make all necessary arrangements for the programme.

MESCOM Managing Director Jayakumar said that 675 people in Dakshina Kannada district have already installed solar panels under PM Surya Ghar yojana. A total of 270 dealers have been identified for the sale of solar equipment under the scheme. The public can register their applications through the online portal www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in

Deputy Commissioner Mullai Mugilan MP stated that discussions will be held with banks to provide loans for purchasing solar equipment.

MLAs Dr Y Bharath Shetty and Vedavyas Kamath suggested organising awareness programmes about the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana.

The meeting was attended by Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Anandh K, Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Anand CL, Lead Bank Manager Kavita, and others.
