Mysuru: Chandrashekar, son of a farmer from Kanneramadu village, Kanakagiri taluk, Koppal district, has secured 13 gold medals and four cash prizes in MA Kannada. He shared his joy with his parents - Sanyappa and Shantamma - during the 106th convocation of the University of Mysore (UoM), held at Crawford Hall in Mysuru, on Monday.
After completing his BA degree at Gavisiddeshwara College in Koppal and a BEd degree at DIET in Mysuru, Chandrashekar joined Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies, under the UoM, for his MA, due to his passion for Kannada literature.
Chandrashekar aspires to become an assistant professor in a First Grade College and intends to pursue a PhD degree, after securing a job.
Chandrashekar said, “We have three acres of dry land in my native place. My parents worked hard to provide me with an education. So, I must find a job soon. I have already cleared the TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) and K-SET examinations. I am also preparing for other competitive exams”.
T Harmeen, daughter of Tayab Ahmed, a bus conductor in the KSRTC, has secured six gold medals and five cash prizes in her BSc degree. She is from Kattemalalavadi village, Hunsur taluk, and resides in Mysuru. Her mother Rukhsana is a teacher at Naganahalli Government High School.
Harmeen said, “Besides my parents, my paternal aunts (doddamma and chikkamma) are also my inspiration. All of them are in government service. I also wish to serve the government, like them. I want to become an IAS officer and serve the people”.
Harmeen, who had scored 95% in PUC, is currently pursuing her MSc degree in Botany at St Francis College, Hyderabad. She is simultaneously preparing for civil service examinations, there.
M Sumalatha, daughter of a farmer couple - Mahesh and Manjula - from Marashettihalli in Mysuru taluk, has secured seven gold medals and two cash prizes in MCom. She is preparing to become an assistant professor.
N Aditi from Mulki, in Dakshina Kannada district, secured 24 gold medals and eight cash prizes in MSc Chemistry. Her father Niranjan Naik is a teacher at Baikampadi Government High School and her mother Shubhalakshmi is an English lecturer in a Government PU College. Like her parents, Aditi dreams of becoming a lecturer, after completing a PhD degree.
S L Prerana from Mandya secured 16 gold medals in MTech. Her father Lokaprakash Narayan is a lecturer, while her mother Shilpa is a head teacher at a Government High School. Prerana is currently pursuing her PhD at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering in Mysuru and aspires to become a professor.
