University of Mysore (UoM) has submitted a proposal to the government seeking a hike in the pay scale of guest lecturers, UoM in-charge Vice-Chancellor Dayananda Mane said.
Addressing reporters here on Thursday, Mane said as per the University Grants Commission (UGC), there is a provision to pay up to Rs 25,000 per month to a guest faculty, and the UoM authorities have written a letter to the government urging it to hike the salary of the faculty members from the academic year 2017-18.
Mane said the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) awarded the varsity for its excellence. The varsity has ranked 36 among 774 universities across the country in the national survey conducted by NIRF. The award was handed over to the authorities at a function. The function was presided over by President of India Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi, recently.
Centre of excellence
Director for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Board and Nodal Officer for Ranking, Lingaraj Gandhi, said that the authorities have submitted a proposal for Rs 350 crore to Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) and Karnataka Knowledge Commission (KKC) to establish four centres of excellence in the varsity.
While a proposal for Rs 200 crore has been submitted for the development of ‘Drug Discovery-Molecular Medicine’, ‘Entrepreneurship’, ‘Field Development’, to KSHEC, a proposal for Rs 150 crore has been submitted to KSHEC for the development of ‘Design Manufacturers in Wood-based Handicraft’, Gandhi said.
UoM Registrar R Rajanna said teaching faculty will be recruited soon. Registrar (Evaluation) J Somashekar, Finance Officer Mahadevappa were also present.
