Inappropriate waste disposal in the district is affecting the people badly.

No scientific methods are followed to manage and dispose 16 tonnes of waste generated in the district and steps initiated to establish a solid waste management unit are yet to bear fruits.

Unclean surroundings are likely to spread diseases. Although the number of pourakarmikas are less than what is required for the city, the city municipal council is not appointing labourers on contract basis. The debris which chokes open drains pollute the environment.

Residents complain of garbage not disposed for months together from Uppara Beedhi, Nayakara Beedhi, Ambedkar Layout, Railway Layout, Galipura Layout, etc.

Pourakarmikas visit rarely and pull out garbage from blocked drainages only to be dumped on the footpaths.

Wastes from nursing homes, hospitals and clinics do not get disposed in a scientific way, threatening of health hazards among people.

Chikkashetty, a resident, says the municipality should take appropriate measures to dispose and manage waste, failure of which would pose serious health hazards.
