Research scholars and the members of various organisations, who were protesting against the University of Mysore for the past three days, demanding transparency and benefits, called off their strike.

The agitators called off the protest after District in-charge and Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda, and Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh assured them of resolving the issues. The protest was held in front of the Crawford Hall, the administrative block of UoM, here, from Thursday. The protesters alleged that the authorities were trying to control the students from seeking justice.

The agitators said, the authorities had filed a criminal case against student leaders Sosale Mahesh and others who had staged a protest demanding basic facilities in the varsity hostels.

They urged the ministers to take steps to withdraw the complaint lodged against the student leaders. The protesters had also alleged irregularities in the appointment of non-teaching staff.
