The High Court of Karnataka issued a notice to the Department of Higher Education on a petition filed by Dr N Ramachandra against his non-selection to the post of vice-chancellor for Mysuru or Bangalore University despite being shortlisted.

The petitioner stated that he was qualified and eligible for the post. He has put in 37 years of unblemished service by holding 10 different top-level administrative posts.

Ramachandra moved the court seeking directions to the authorities concerned to appoint him as the vice-chancellor of either of the varsities. He said he has a postdoctorate degree from the University of Athens, Atlanta and Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo.
