Davangere: Upa Lokayukta B Veerappa informed that he visited 22 government offices and places in Davangere district from April 22 to 25, and a total of 13 suo motu complaints have been registered.
Speaking at a press conference in Davangere on Friday evening, he said suo motu complaints are related to APMC, Social Welfare Department, District Chigateri General Hospital, Drug Warehouse, City Corporation, Taluk Office, Labour Department, Mines and Geology Department, Regional Transport Office, Hirethogalur stone quarry, Shivaganga stone crusher and Shantisagar lake management.
“The Lokayukta will initiate an inquiry after receiving a report from the police. A total of 510 complaints have been received from the public. Out of those, 102 cases, including 77 new complaints and 25 old cases, have been settled,” he informed.
He said the Lokayukta is an autonomous body, and steps have been taken to further strengthen the institution. The Lokayukta will never tolerate corruption by government officials. Priority has been given to the speedy disposal of pending cases.He said that of the ten districts he has visited so far, he has received the highest number of complaints in Davangere.
114 complaints
He also claimed that people have confidence in the performance of the Lokayukta, and around 23,000 cases have been registered in the state. In 30% of these cases, false allegations may have been made against officials. As many as 114 complaints are pending in the district.
Most complaints are related to the Revenue Department and survey. Besides, complaints have been received concerning the non-issuance of e-khatas and illegal encroachment in cities. A suo motu complaint has been registered against the Regional Transport Officer’s office and details of school vehicles whose registration period has expired have been sought, Justice B Veerappa replied to a question from the media.
