Udupi: A 16-year-old girl died by suicide after her mother refused to give her a mobile phone in Airodi, under the jurisdiction of the Kota police station.

According to the police, the deceased was a first-year PU student and had a holiday after her exams. When she asked her mother, Asha, for her mobile phone, her mother assured her she would give it later. Upset by the delay, the teenager skipped lunch and locked herself inside her room.

When she did not respond, neighbors broke open the door and found her hanging. She was rushed to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

A case has been registered at the Kota police station.
