For the treatment of major ailments suffered by people living below poverty line (BPL), Vajpayee Arogyasri Yojana will be launched in six districts of Mysore division from February 3.
The scheme will cover catastrophic illness suffered by individuals of a family living below poverty line.
Regional Consultant of Vajpayee Arogya Mysore Division, Dr N Ramesh speaking to Deccan Herald said that a population of 20.27 lakh people who are BPL beneficiaries will benefit from the project. The project has already been launched in Kodagu and Hassan. Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Chikmagalur, Mangalore and Udupi districts are set for the launch this month.
For the launch ‘Mega Camp’ will be conducted in all district centres. Scheme will be launched in Mandya on February 3, Chamarajanagar on February 14. Chikmagalur on February 16, Udupi on February 17 and Mangalore on February 18. The date for the launch of the scheme is yet to be finalised.

World Bank will fund 80 per cent of the project, while state government will fund the remaining 20 per cent.
The scheme, which will provide free treatment for 402 procedures including cardiovascular diseases, cancer treatment, burns and neo-natal cases, will also consist of 55 post operative procedures. Accidents, if not covered by insurance will also be taken up under the Yojana, he said.
Bi-monthly identification camps of potential beneficiaries will also be conducted after the launch in all taluks and districts.
Treatments of up to Rs two lakh per year will be provided for free for a BPL family at select empanelled hospitals in the region. The package will also include 14 day stay to recuperate from the treatment received under the scheme, food expenses during the stay and travel allowances.
Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust, a division of the health and family welfare ministry will sign Memorandum of Understanding with hospitals having the the speciality to treat major ailments. The empanelled medical institutions will extend medical aids to beneficiaries under the scheme.
Seven hospitals of Mysore including Apollo-BGS, Bharath Cancer Hospital, Cauvery Fortis, JSS Hospital and Jayadeva Hospital are the empanelled medical institutes, Dr Ramesh said.
Vikram Hospital in Mandya, Fathers Mullers Hospital, Yenepoya Hospital and K S Hegde hospital in Mangalore and Kasturba Medical College Hospital in Udupi are also empanelled, but no medical institutes are empanelled in the remaining four districts of Mysore division.
The strength of beneficiaries under the scheme in Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Kodagu and Chikmagalur districts is 8.41 lakh.
