Heavy rain that lashed the city on Thursday, disrupted Valmiki Jayanti celebrations organised by the government at Vidhana Soudha.

Hundreds of people who had gathered at the event run helter-skelter as it started pouring.

People who were brought from various parts of the state made a dash towards corridors and grand steps of the Vidhana Soudha. As entry inside the building was restricted, a large number of people were forced to use chairs, banners and flexes to shield themselves from the rain.

Many of them even ran outside Vidhana Soudha with upturned chairs over their heads in the hope of finding public transportation to make their way back to Palace Grounds, where their buses were parked.

Chairs were found lying all around Vidhana Soudha, on Race Course Road, Cubbon Park and Hudson Circle. A lucky few sought shelter in Legislators’ Home and the Metro station, raising security concerns.
