There is a need for value-based education on environment and ecology in the school and college level to fight the climate change and environmental pollution, opined Prof K N Uday Shankar, faculty at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE).
He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar on “Climate Change and its Impact on Environment”, organised at the department of Geography at Maharaja’s college here on Friday.
He said exploitation of earth’s natural resources and extreme usage of nuclear and thermal energy were among the important reasons for the pollution of water, air and land.
“These factors are leading a damage of earth’s natural environment. Also, the urbanisation, industrialisation, use of chemical fertilisers led to hazardous impact on the earth. Hence, we all have duty to protect the environment,” he said.
Earlier, Prof V G Talawar, Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore inaugurated the seminar.
Registrar (evaluation), B Ramu, principal of Maharaja’s College S N Gayatri, Administrator Latha K Bidappa and others were present.
