The constituency registered 73.2 per cent polling. The by -lection was necessitated following the death of member Bhirthi Suresh Shetty. Varamballi and Kumragodi has 5,408 voters. Of which, 3,968 have cast their franchise Speaking to Deccan Herald, Brahmavar Special Tahsildar K Muralidhar said “polling was peaceful. The constituency has seven polling booths. Bennekudru polling booth registered highest polling percentage of 79.54. Mabukalla registered lowest of 67.39 per cent.” There were six candidates in fray. They include Dinakar Poojary (Cong), Nishanth Rai (BJP) and four independent candidates.
The counting will be held on Monday at Udupi taluk office from 8 am.
