Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala D Veerendra Heggade said that in-depth research of Ayurveda is required for exploiting its fullest potential.
He was speaking at the installation ceremony of the idol of Lord Dhanwanthari at JSS Ayurveda College and Hospital and also inauguration of the girls’ hostel on the premises of the college here on Thursday.
Stating that the human body is the greatest machine, he said lifestyle anomalies are harming it. “Ayush or healthy life span is a precious possession. One can easily lose it due to neglect. So, the knowledge of Ayurveda should be used to preserve this Ayush. Ayurveda is folk, but not fake.
Hence, steps should be taken to properly document theis science and also conduct research on it for the benefit of future generations,” he said.
Both the researcher and also its sponsorer need patience as the results of a research is not available instantly. Research takes time. Ayurveda is not competing with Allopathy system of treatment, which is on another level like organ transplants. But, the objective of Ayurveda is to ensure comprehensive health for an individual, Heggade clarified.
Pointing out that Ayurveda is gaining ground, he gave an example of the Udupi Ayurveda College, which the Dharmasthala management took over in 1973.
“The already 30-year-old college management found it difficult to sustain and appealed to us to take over. Then, the college used to receive around 300 patients a month on an average and 50 per cent of the cases were terminal in condition, which were referred by Allopathy hospitals trying to save some money for the patient’s relatives. Now, we receive around 7,000 patients every month and most of them opt Ayurveda as their first choice,” he said.
Seer of Kayakalp Peeth in Uttarakashi Somanath Giri Maharaj said one’s self or mind is all powerful and it can be enlightened by meditation. “All problems facing the people in general due to lifestyle changes like stress and frustration, can be solved by meditation. The science is within us. While the mind is an element, the body is chemistry of various elements,” he said.
The college’s monthly journal ‘Yogakshema’ and Dr T L Devaraj’s three books on Ayurveda were released on the occasion.
Suttur seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, MP Prathap Simha, MLA G T Devegowda and Deputy Mayor Mahadevamma were present on the occasion.
