Bengaluru: Food and Civil Supplies minister K H Muniyappa assured the Legislative Council on Monday of addressing the BPL card issue in the next two months.
Responding to a question by BJP member C T Ravi, he said, “There are at least 15-20% APL card holders in BPL category and we have decided to re-verify them and the filtering process is on.”
Muniyappa said that state government was planning a verification of BPL cards in view of the Centre’s guidelines. Seeking support from leaders from all parties, Muniyappa said, “When we start verification of the BPL cards again, I want all parties to extend their support. At least 20 lakh APL card holders are in BPL category which is highest in Karnataka among all south India states.”
The minister said that a committee at Gram Panchayat level will be formed for physical verification of the cards. “We will do it as per Centre’s guidelines and will begin it soon after the session,” he assured.
