In a rare display of honesty, two residents of Charmadi village returned gold jewels worth Rs 3,20,000 to its rightful owner.
B Muhammed Ali and his father P P Abdul Rehman found a bag containing gold jewels lying on the roadside. They later handed the bag to Dharmasthala police station. The police tracked the bag's owner to one Prema and Ramachandra Devadiga, residents of Konuru Paduvari village in Byndoor taluk in Udupi district. She had lost the bag containing 105-gram gold jewels and a mobile phone, while travelling back from Tirupati to her place via Bengaluru, in a private bus on Monday night. On reaching Bengaluru on Tuesday morning, she realised that the bag was missing. All attempts to trace the bag had gone in vain.
The bag containing valuables was later handed over by the police to its owner Ramachandra Devadiga. The police and the owners of the bag thanked Ali and Rehman.
