Bidadi (Ramanagar dist): Residents of a few villages in the hobli have decided to go on a padayatra to the office of the deputy commissioner, opposing the government’s decision to acquire 9,600 acres in Bidadi hobli and nearby places for a township under the Greater Bengaluru Development Authority (GBDA).

They will submit a memorandum to the DC against acquiring the said land.

The residents held a meeting at Hosuru village on Tuesday to work out the modalities of the agitation. An agitation committee has been formed with three members from each of the villages. Residents, farmers, members of self-help groups and women’s self-help groups from Bhyramangala, Bannigiri, Mandalahalli, Kanchugaranahalli, Kempayyanahalli, Hosuru, Aralusandra and K J Gollarapalya villages took part in the meeting.

They said that these villages had been included under GBDA without taking the consent of the residents. The government had taken an unilateral decision to benefit some people, they said. “We will be thrown to the streets in future, if we sell away our lands for the greed of money,” they said.

They raised slogans against GBDA and said they would not give up the agitation till the land acquisition process was halted.
