Vokkaliga SSLC topper to get Rs 1 lakh in cash

Rajya Vokkaliga Okkuta has decided to honour a Vokkaliga community student who has scored highest marks in SSLC exam this year, with cash prize of Rs one lakh, informed Rajya Vokkaliga Okkuta State President M R Venkatesh.

Speaking to media persons on Sunday, he said the top scorer along with 40 other students will be felicitated at the valedictory function of Vokkaliga Dharma Sammelana which will be held in Bangalore in the first week of August.

The convention will discuss various issues related to the community including the origin, growth of Vokkaligas, their social, educational, cultural and political contributions to the society, the challenges faced by the community members at present etc.

The scholars and subject analysts, political leaders including the Chief Minister, seers of Vokkaliga community including Adichunchanagiri seer Balagangadharnath will be part of the convention. Five community members will be felicitated on the occasion for their exceptional service to the society, he said.

Speaking about the cash prize offered to the students who have performed oustandingly well in the SSLC exam, he said priority will be given to those students belonging to middle or lower middle class who hail from villages and have studied in government schools.

The students who have scored top marks can send the application form along with the photocopy of the marks card and caste certificate to the office of Rajya Vokkaliga Okkuta, No. 133/1, Shobha Tower, Gandhibazar Circle, Basavanagudi, Bangalore-560004, on or before July 15. Meanwhile, on being asked about the support of Vokkaligas to Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda, Venkatesh said that the community members unanimously support the CM.
