The Urban Development Department has announced the final list of ward reservation of Mysore City Corporation (MCC) for the upcoming election to the civic body.

The term of the present council of the MCC will end in September and the election will be conducted soon after the present council’s term ends. The ward reservation is allotted as per the provisions under Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976.

Based on the 2011 Census, the reservation has been allotted. Out of a total of 65, 31 wards are reserved for women. While 16 wards are reserved for General (women), three and one wards are reserved for Scheduled Caste (women) and Schedule Tribe (women), respectively.

Similarly, 11 wards are reserved for Other Backward Class (B) women.

Out of the remaining 34 wards, 17 wards are reserved for General category and nine wards for Backward Class (A). While four wards are reserved for Schedule Caste category, two wards are reserved for Backward Class (B) and
Schedule Tribe category, respectively.

BJP MLA S A Ramdas had raised objection to the draft of the wards’ reservation and had alleged that the reservation was done unscientifically.

He had said that the wards of the MCC were not delimited from the last 17 years.

The city has 65 wards and as per the draft, 50% reservation has been given for women.

According to the MCC officials, the reservation is done based on caste. But, the authorities have violated the norms and have followed caste-based reservation, Ramdas had
alleged.
