Garbage collection was partially affected in some localities as some of the civic workers had left for their native places to exercise franchise on Tuesday.
The workers had been employed by Antony Waste Handling Cell Private Limited, the private firm engaged in door-to-door garbage collection and transport.
Roadsides, bins outside apartments, shops, and halls were overflowing with garbage in some places, including Balambhat Hall and Hampankatta. Shopkeepers had kept waste in plastic covers outside their shops at Hampankatta, K S Rao Road and Market Road for the civic workers to collect.
Stray dogs were seen on the garbage in the open.
MCC Health Officer Manjaiah Shetty said some of the workers had gone to exercise franchise and this had affected the garbage collection in some places. The work would resume Wednesday morning.
There are over 600 workers under Antony Waste. On an average, the city generates 300 tonnes of waste a day.
