As intermittent rainfall continued in Mysuru and Mandya districts on Sunday and Monday, the water level in the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir rose sharply and approached the danger mark.

To maintain the water level in the KRS dam below 123 ft-- as against the maximum level of 124.8 ft-- the dam authorities opened the crest gates to let out excess water.

Visitors to the KRS dam and the Brindavan Gardens there (a famous tourist spot), rejoiced at the sight of the water surging out of the KRS dam when the crest gates were opened on Monday.

People gathered at various viewing points downstream to watch river Cauvery in spate. The Wessly Bridge in Srirangapatna was their favourite spot. The brimming Cauvery river gushed forth under the bridge on Monday morning.
