Water-level rises at Vatehole Dam in Alur

The area has received 160.5 mm of rain from last Saturday and has filled all the tanks and lakes  to the brim in the area. The Vatehole Dam which has a capacity of 1.51tmc, has had tremendous inflow and the level of water stands at 964.55 mt, with only a meter and a half of water required to fill the dam to full capacity. The Yagachi river which is the lifeline of this taluk, and the Shankathirtha and Chakrathritha rivers are fed by these rains. The rain has also caused worry to the farmers as the moisture in the soil is set to increase due to the continuous rain. Potato, Maize and the ginger crop are in danger and the farmers are  worried about the harvest of this crop. The summer crop of paddy in the area is also under threat.   The incessant rain have destroyed almost 90 percent of the roads in this area bringing nightmare to the motorists. Potholes have cropped up and there have been many accidents due to the bad condition of the roads.
