Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited (KNNL) authorities have clarified that water was not being diverted from Kalasa Nala to Malaprabha river.

A section of activists from Goa have suspected that the water was being diverted from Kalasa Nala to the river.

"There has been heavy rains in the catchments of river Malaprabha and its tributaries in the last few days. Heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats region in Khanapur taluk and borders with Goa has led to water logging on both sides. Water from Kalasa Nala is not being diverted Malaprabha river," KNNL Executive Engineer for Kalasa Project S P Naik.

"As per orders of Mahadayi River Tribunal, wall was been constructed across the canal laid for diverting the waters from Kalasa Nala five year ago. Rain water has accumulated in the canal," said.
