Mandya: An elephant was electrocuted to death at a private farm near Karalakatte village in the wee hours of Monday.
The forest officials said that H C Ramesh, who owns the farmland on the outskirts of the village, had installed a solar fence around his farm to keep the elephants from destroying his crop, but had also allegedly given power supply to the fence.
On Sunday night, a herd of elephants, which had tried to enter his farmland, experienced a shock and moved away. However, a male jumbo, said to be around 30 years old, was electrocuted and died on the spot.
Conservator of Forest Raghu, ACF Mahadevaswamy and Police personnel visited the spot, along with Cesc officials.
Veterinarians Dr Wasim and Dr Naveen conducted the postmortem and the wild jumbo was cremated as per the norms on Monday evening.
The Halagur police have registered a case.
