City police commissioner N S Megharikh told Deccan Herald, “It is sad that a senior police officer committed suicide. We don’t know what drove him to it. We have to wait for the investigations.”

Asked if police personnel are not counselled, he said, “They can be counselled on professional issues but we never know what happens in their personal life.”

Another senior police officer, who knew Ganapathi said, “His colleagues say he was suffering from depression and was under medication. He was also suffering from ailments. All these could have driven him to commit suicide.

“For now, nothing can be said. The CID is conducting the investigation and a clear picture will emerge after they submit a report.”
