Will put an end to naxal activities in Karnataka: Shettar

The Karnataka government would soon put an end to naxal activities in the state and steps had already been taken to curb the menace in two districts, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said here today.

"We have taken all necessary steps to curb naxalism in Dakshina Kannada and Karwar regions and will soon put an end to naxal activities in the state" he told reporters on the sidelines of Police Day celebrations here.

He said Naxals had sent out feelers that some wanted to surrender, but none had done so far during the one week time granted to them from September 17

"However the doors are still open for them (naxalites) to surrender with their weapons", he said, adding government has already announced a rehabilitation programme for them.
Highlighting government initiatives for the police department, Shettar said 10 new police stations had been set up this year, Rs 50 crore sanctioned for housing facilities and Rs one crore alloted for the police welfare fund.

Shettar later paid tribute to 574 police personnel who died during service.
