A young woman, who married a teenage boy last month after dating him for three years, has alleged that her in-laws were keeping her husband in illegal confinement and that he had gone missing.

The woman, Sandhya, and her parents arrived at her in-laws’ house near Channarayapatna on Wednesday and staged a flash protest, suggesting that her husband had gone missing. Sandhya said they got married on March 24 but her in-laws didn’t approve of the marriage and sent the couple out of their home. The couple then stayed with the boy’s uncle in Hassan. Fifteen days after the marriage, the boy went to his house to get his bank passbook and other documents but never returned.

On their part, the parents said that they had lodged a missing complaint with the police on March 27 when their son went “missing”. They also said they didn’t know about his marriage as he was a minor.

The police have assured Sandhya to bring her husband back by Saturday.
