Udupi: The Malpe police arrested four persons in connection with the assault of a woman after tying her to a tree in Malpe.

Udupi SP Dr Arun K said a local woman Lakshmibai accused a woman from Vijayanagara district of stealing fish and assaulted her on Tuesday. Later, the victim was tied to a tree and was slapped and assaulted. In fact, a large number of people had gathered and assaulted the woman. 

The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. Based on the complaint by the victim, the Malpe police have registered a case under Sections 74, 115, 351 and 352 of BNS and also under prevention of atrocities Act. 

Based on the complaint, the police have arrested Lakshmibai, Sundar, Shilpa and one more person. The police will further verify the video and take measures to arrest all those who assaulted the woman.
