'Women have power to bring change'Mangalore celebrates International Womens Day

“Women are not a burden. She has the power to bring change. She is a guide. Women have played a major role in Indian Independence. From Kittur Rani Chennamma to Abbakka Rani, a woman has been an example for bravery. On women’s day, the discussions should not be limited to the rights of a woman, instead thought should be put on safeguarding culture, tradition and hence passing it on to the future generations”, said the MP.

The Women’s Day celebrations were jointly oraganised by the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Women and Child Welfare Department, District Legal Services Authority, Zilla Mahila Mandala Okkuta and Karnataka State Women’s Commission.

“If a woman is educated, she can educate the society. If any work is given to a woman, she completes it till the end. Women are a role model to the society,” said ZP President Shailaja Bhat presiding over the programme.

Book release

‘Nisargadattha Aahara,’ a book written by Nagarika Seva Trust Vice President Vidhya Nayak and ‘Vaidakiya Garbapatha Nuthana Guligegalu Sadhaka-Bhodhanegalu’ written by KMC College Professor Dr Rati Devi was released on the occasion.

Felicitations

Navyashree Mahila Mandala (Puttur), Adyanadka Mahila Mandala (Bantwal), Kulai Mahila Mandala (Mangalore), Kudirudhyavara Vidhya Saraswati Mahila Mandala (Belthangady) and Mahila Samaja (Sullia) were felicitated with the district-level prize for outstanding Mahila Mandalas.

Puttur’s Sadhana Stree Shakti group which is nominated for state award and national/state award nominees Puttur’s Aryappu Anganawadi Worker Sandhya, Premalatha from Ganjimutt’s Subramanya School and Kapikkad Bejai Anganawadi worker Rajani were also felicitated.

Exhibition

An exhibition of products made by women from Self Help Groups was also organised in Town Hall premises. Bags, night dresses, food items, jewellery, herbal drinks, pickles and many other items were kept on sale.
