Mangaluru: State President of the Karnataka Mahila Congress, Sowmya Reddy said that she entered politics as a women's rights activist and is committed to implementing women's reservations.
Reddy took part in a programme organised by Dakshina Kannada Congress under the theme ‘Women's Membership Campaign and Women's Samman’ at the DK DCC office on Sunday.
She emphasised the need for women to have the determination to succeed despite the challenges in a male-dominated society.
Karnataka Congress government's five guarantee schemes have been helpful in economically empowering women and urged women to strive for social and political growth. MLC and KPCC working president Manjunath Bhandary emphasised that women's leadership can only grow when women work collectively. He encouraged women to advance in politics through their efforts.
MLC Ivan D'Souza mentioned that although the five guarantees may not have favoured the Congress in Dakshina Kannada, they have significantly benefited the women in the district.
DK DCC president Harish Kumar stated that women should utilise their opportunities in politics effectively. Under the leadership of President Shalet Pinto, the Dakshina Kannada District Women's Congress unit is functioning well. Former ministers Ramanath Rai and Abhaychandra Jain, Karnataka State Cashew Development Corporation Chairperson Mamatha Gatty and others spoke.
