Karnataka BJP president and Shivamogga MP B S Yeddyurappa on Thursday demanded a CBI inquiry into the recent suicides by senior police officials in the state.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Yeddyurappa also claimed that the law and order in Karnataka had “completely derailed”.
Two police officers of deputy superintendent of police rank had committed suicide in Karnataka recently. State minister K J George had to resign after a trial court ordered registration of an FIR against him in connection with the suicide of DySP M K Ganapathi, he said.
“I urge the Union Government to do justice to the bereaved families of the police officers by handing over the case to the CBI,” Yeddyurappa said.
Yeddyurappa said that before committing suicide, the Madikeri DySP had given an interview to a TV channel holding George and two senior officials responsible if anything happened to him.
The BJP leader also claimed that a woman IAS officer too had complained of assault, while another woman police officer had resigned alleging harassment by political leaders.
“In the state of Karnataka, there is a feeling among government officials that they are not safe,” he said. As Yeddyurappa went hammer and tongs against the Karnataka government, Congress members R Dhruvanarayana and D K Suresh stormed into the well of the House and raised slogans against Yeddyurappa.
