Bengaluru: BJP leader Basanagaouda Patil Yatnal on Tuesday claimed that Yediyurappa did not belong to the Lingayat community, but to the Balegara Shettaru community, a minuscule OBC community in the state.
Yatnal told reporters, “If anyone wants to know the truth about Yediyurappa’s caste they should visit his birth place Bookanakere in Mandya district, where his family is regarded as Balegara Shettaru.”
He said Yediyurappa was blackmailing the BJP in the name Lingayat community.
“After Veerendra Patil and J H Patel, inadvertently, Yediyurappa was embraced by the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community. All his life, he has deprived reservation for Lingayats,” he charged.
