Bengaluru: State health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that 'Yoga Mandirs' will be established in district and taluk hospitals and community health centres across Karnataka to introduce more people in the state to yoga.

He was speaking at the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations organised by the Ayush department at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Saturday, where the Governor was also present to practice yoga.

The government has also facilitated over 5 lakh people to practice yoga across 10,000 places in the state. A 45-minute yoga demonstration was performed.

A proposal to make Mysuru a yoga district has already been submitted to the Centre, which will comprise having at least one person in every household in Mysore district practices yoga. Rao said more emphasis will be given to Ashtanga Yoga, which has been a tradition in the state.

He also said that through the Yoga Dhanash programme, five lakh people across the state have been taught the yoga protocol and steps have been taken to implement it in 5,000 schools under the program.
