Gadag: A youth has lodged a complaint with Gadag town police station alleging harassment to follow Islam after he was converted into the religion following his marriage with a Muslim girl.

According to complainant Vishal Kumar, he belongs to Scheduled Caste and he married a Muslim girl in November 24 after they fell in love. The complaint states that the maternal uncle of the girl got the marriage performed in accordance with the Mohammedan practice. 

“I was forced to convert into Islam and my name was changed to Viraj without my knowledge. I was mentally harassed to visit mosque everyday for namaz. Her family rejected our proposal to solemnise the marriage according to Hindu customs. Therefore, it is very clear that girl’s family has the intention to convert me to Islam,” the complaint
states.
