Mangaluru: The Additional District and Sessions Court (POCSO FTSC-1) Judge Vinay D of Karnataka's Mangaluru has sentenced a youth to one year in jail who filmed a video of a girl bathing in a bathroom.

The name of the convicted is Gagan, aged 24. The incident occurred on March 10, 2024, under the jurisdiction of the Bajpe police station. The accused, Gagan, climbed over the compound wall of a house and filmed the girl through the window of the bathroom, where an exhaust fan opening was left uncovered.

The girl noticed the mobile light and screamed, prompting her mother to rush to the spot. The accused fled the scene. A case was registered at Bajpe police station. PSIs Gurappa Kanthi and Revanna Siddappa G conducted the investigation, and PSI Satish KS filed the chargesheet in court.

Within nine months, the court sentenced the accused. Under Section 354(C) of the IPC, the accused was sentenced to one year of simple imprisonment and fined Rs 20,000. In case of non-payment, an additional three months of simple imprisonment was imposed. Of the Rs 20,000 fine, Rs 10,000 was directed as compensation to the victim, and an additional Rs 1 lakh was ordered to be given to the girl as compensation by the District Legal Services Authority.

Special Public Prosecutor Sahana Devi Bolur represented the prosecution. The victim’s mother filed the complaint. Although the accused deleted the video from his phone, the court sentenced him based on witness statements.
